ABOUT US
CAMP L.G. BARNES: Inclusive by Design Since 1955
For decades, Camp L.G. Barnes has been sustained in part through grants from provincial agencies, including Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD). This vital funding has helped us deliver inclusive recreation programs and maintain fully accessible facilities – ensuring barrier-free access for people with disabilities.
Today, we operate as a non-profit society and registered charity under the Alberta Societies Act, continuing our legacy of inclusive recreational activities in Bentley, Alberta. We maintain affordable pricing so everyone can enjoy our wheelchair-friendly cabins, adaptive lake recreation, and inclusive accommodations.
Looking to the future, we are transitioning into a self-sustaining, business-oriented organization guided by a comprehensive business plan that embraces social entrepreneurship. While we continue to value and seek grant support, our growth strategy focuses on generating revenue through public bookings, facility rentals, and special events. All profits are reinvested into our mission – enhancing the lives of people with disabilities through community-centered recreation.
To make the most of our lakeside setting, we now welcome the general public for vacations, retreats, and celebrations. And yes – Uncle Joe can now enjoy a beer around the campfire, thanks to our updated alcohol policy, which reflects our inclusive and welcoming environment.
