CAMP L.G. BARNES: A LEGACY OF INCLUSION AND SERVICE SINCE 1955

In 1955, the Parent Organization purchased 9 lots on the shores of Gull Lake and built a small summer camp for people who lived in Michener Centre to visit. At this time, the camp was referred to as the “Dr. Randall R. MacLean Cottage” after the Minister of Health for Alberta.

Over the years, it became apparent that a larger camp with better facilities was needed, and thus began the construction of the present day lodge. In 1982 the camp was officially opened and renamed “Camp L.G. Barnes” after Mr. Lem Barnes who, in addition to sitting on the Society board at the time, also donated an extraordinary amount of time, labour and materials to the construction of the new lodge. On May 19, 2021, the Society of Parents & Friends of Michener officially changed it’s name to “Camp L.G. Barnes Society”.

For over 50 years, Camp L.G. Barnes has been Making A Difference in the lives of adults with disabilities in Alberta.

What we offer:

We provide adults with disabilities an opportunity to experience a holiday at a camp tailored to meet their needs. With diverse needs, the camp is able to work with its guests to offer them a unique camp experience in a safe and secure environment.

We also offer many special events, seasonal activities and retreats. Knowing that it can be costly to participate in many activities, Camp L.G. Barnes has intentionally made our pricing extremely affordable. Our goal is to ensure that everyone can come and enjoy our resort.

If you are looking for a venue to host a dry event, we encourage you to contact Camp L.G. Barnes.
